Scholars think that printmaking started in China in the early 7th century after cloth printing began in Egypt. Modern printmaking began mainly from this point. Later, besides Egypt, it spread over Persia, Peru, India, Mexico and Japan. And the development of printmaking accelerated in Europe approximately during the 15th century. This trend of gradual development in printmaking is still going on in Bangladesh. I became interested in publishing a book on this topic. The book includes write ups on cave printings from the prehistoric ages to contemporary printmaking in ancient Egypt, China, Japan, Europe, America, India, and Bangladesh. The owner of the Prothom Publishing house has put me to his debt by shouldering the responsibility of publishing this book. I will consider my labour a success if this book comes to aid any student of printmaking and connoisseur.
