Title : ‘Zia Radiant in Memory’
At the command of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, from the Kalorghat radio station in Chittagong, the man who called on the people of the country to dive into the War of Independence, was the martyred President Ziaur Rahman. He was a proponent of multi-party democracy and Bangladeshi nationalism, a heroic freedom fighter and a successful statesman. Throughout his career, he sowed the seeds of development of the country side by side with the common people. He gave attention to villages to move the wheel of economy of this country. So his voice was ‘self-dependent village means self-dependent country’. On the occasion of the 22nd martyrdom anniversary of this great leader Ziaur Rahman, my second solo painting exhibition titled ‘In Radiant Memory of Zia’ was organized at the gallery of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in homage to his colourful career. The exhibition was inaugurated by the Honourable Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Barrister Muhammad Shahjahan Omar Biruttam at the Gallery Lounge on June 9, 2003 at 5 pm. About forty of my paintings on acrylic canvas paper were on display. The paintings were able to draw the attention of the art lovers.
In the nineties of the twentieth century, I sought to create experimental paintings in semi-abstract and abstract art, and the same trend continues to this day. The theme of the series of my works becomes ‘Image of Life and Time.’ In my prints, the existing happiness-sorrow, instability, anarchy, violence-hatred and primitive pictures of the society began to be observed. Using strong rhythmic lines, delicate textures, deep tonalities, triangles, circles, semicircles, simple, curved geometric forms, multiple shapes, I sought aesthetic language in this series of works of art. Most of the prints at this time are mainly made with a combination of etching, aquatint and soft-ground techniques. Some of the notable images of this process are ‘Image of Life and Time’– 6, 7, 8, 14, 15, 16, 21. ‘Speed’ is done in the drypoint variant; notable among the woodcuts are ‘Image of Life and Time-76’ ; among lithography is ‘Image of Life and Time’-82’; and among lift-ground Etching is ‘Life-10’ On March 1, 2003, I organized the first solo exhibition of prints titled ‘Image of Life and Time’ at the National Gallery of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Honourable Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh AKM Mosharraf Hossain, FCA, MP inaugurated the exhibition at Gallery Lounge on March 1 at 5 pm. The week-long exhibition drew a large audience. The prints were able to draw the attention of the art lovers.
